Fansubbing Process
These are the stages of the fansubbing process at Ryugan.
- Capping: The capper captures the TV stream and send it to us on a server.
This is normally done within 2-3 hours after airing, if the capper has fast internet. - Work Raw (WR): When our encoder creates the Work Raws for the episodes.
- Translation (TL): Our translator is working, Do Not Disturb him.
- Timing: When the script gets timed to match what’s being said in the video.
- Edit: When someone with a really good knowledge of English, normally Kae-OneeSama, puts the translated script in good English. (Even though our translator’s English is awesome. ^^)
- Typesetting (TS): Badskater, working on the titles and sign if there are any.
- Script Quality Check (sQC): People are not perfect, so we have someone to check the script for the errors remaining.
- Release Candidate Encode (RCE): Encoding a release candidate.
- Release Candidate Quality Check (RCQC): Here, a Quality Checker checks for encoding/sign/timing problems.
- Final Encode: After everything is checked it gets (re-)encoded and muxed for distribution.
- Distribution (Distro): When it’s ready to release, we pass it through to both distro servers, and we release just after.
There is also the TLC pass, which is useful when the TL doesn’t know what has been said or doesn’t know how to translate it into English. Another translator will come and help the first translator out.
